7/29/10 NEF Message to State QZAB Directors re: Grants for 1,000 QZAB-eligible school districts

Thursday 7/29/2010 10:05 AM

RE: NEF Math Homework Helper grants for your state's QZAB- eligiblle school districts

Dear QZAB Director:

In view of the serious fiscal situation threatening many of the state education departments and the prospect of large-scale teacher layoffs,we have decided that our first priority, as the leading nonprofit education foundation bridging the academic and digital divides in our Nation’s schools, should be to ensure that students in disadvantaged schools do not fall further behind in their studies.

We have identified middle and high school math students as particularly vulnerable to experiencing the effects of such layoffs as teaching staffs are spread thin and critical homework assistance is curtailed.

Therefore, we have decided to provide grants to 1,000 QZAB-eligible school districts nationally, on a first-come, first-served basis, with no state receiving grants for more than 20 QZAB-eligible school districts.

As many of you know, we have been the primary supporter of the QZAB program since its inception. We provided the 10% match to most of the QZABs issued nationally in 2009, and helped to set up top quality QZAB academies to help prepare students for college and workforce as required by the QZAB law. We will be glad to assist any QZAB eligible school district in your state with QZAB in order to ensure the integrity of the QZAB program and Congressional support vital for the extension of the QZAB beyond 2010.

Please send us the contact information for the superintendents of the QZAB-eligible schools you select for the Math Homework Helper grant.:

We will provide all the 7-12th graders of the selected school districts 24/7 unlimited access for the 2010-2011 school year to our online Math Homework Helper program mapped to all math problems in all 7-12 math textbooks used in the U.S. This will be at no cost to the school district, with no strings attached.

Please forward this message to your state Superintendent and State Title One SES Director with a copy to me.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or our Education VP and QZAB Director Dr. Laurence Peters (the First QZAB Director at the U.S. Education Department) at 703-823-9999 Email: lpeters@nefuniversity.org if you need any assistance.

Thank you for your cooperation. Working together, we CAN make a difference using innovative solutions!
