Congress Extends the QZAB Program for 2008 and 2009

Now that the QZAB two year extension bill has been enacted into law, the Treasury awaits receipt
from OMB the latest child population poverty census data which will serve as the basis for allocating
the $400 million each that will be allocated to the 50 states and territories for 2008 and 2009.

It is expected that this work will be completed within the next month or two.
Although many states wait for the U.S. Secretary of Education to send a letter to the
Chief State School Official notifying him/her of the state QZAB allocation, once IRS publishes the allocation table, it is possible for states to post their request for QZAB applications. As soon IRS notifies us of the State Allocations, we will post the table on our website, www.qzab.org

Please feel free to contact Dr. Laurence Peters (the first director of the QZAB program at the U.S. Department of Education and author of many QZAB directives) at 703-823-9999 if you have any questions. You can also email at qzab@qzab.org
