NEF CyberLearning Offers $100 Million Grants for Digital Literacy

— All Disadvantaged Middle Schools Are Eligible for Full Grant

Washington, DC, January 19, 2015

National Education Foundation (NEF), the national non-profit leader in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and digital education, solutions, is offering $100 million full grants to disadvantaged middle schools anywhere in the U.S.

In order to be eligible for the grant, a middle school should have 35% or more students on Free/Reduced cost lunch.

NEF will provide grants, on a first-come first-serve basis, making sure that at least one middle school is chosen from each school district.

The State University of New York (SUNY), NEF’s academic partner,  will assist the chosen grant recipients to implement the Digital Literacy course mapped to the Federal NCLB (No Child Left Behind) standard.

Students, who successfully completing the course, will receive SUNY certificates, and will be well-prepared to pass their state’s exam.

NEF Chairman, Dr, Appu Kuttan states, “U.S. is falling behind globally in STEM and digital education. Even though NCLB mandates digital education testing for all 8th graders, many state have not implemented, since it is an unfunded mandate. So, NEF is stepping up to provide the course at no cost to the taxpayers, states and schools.”

Dr. Kuttan, the 2006 Global online slots Digital Literacy Champion Award winner,  adds, “To help U.S. maintain its global economic and technology leadership, we need to set up world-class digital education programs in our middle schools, as NCLB has mandated. Our significant national initiative aims to do exactly that, by saving taxpayers $100 million.”

Former President Bill Clinton complimented NEF’ efforts by stating,       “You are helping to empower tomorrow’s leaders. I salute you for your ongoing commitment for creating a better and stronger America.”
