NEF CyberLearning Announces 2014 STEM Leadership Award Recipient

MCLEAN, Va., June 4, 2014 — /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The National Education Foundation (NEF), a leader in K-12 STEM education, awarded its 2014 STEM Leadership Award to Tri-Valley school district (PA). The outstanding academic achievement exemplified by the Administration and students was recognized on May 28, 2014 with a $10,000 donation from NEF. “We are very excited to recognize the accomplishments of Tri-Valley.  The school district successfully implemented the Total System Solution Academy program, which was evident in the students’ academic achievement” NEF Chairman, Dr. Appu Kuttan stated at the ceremony.

The STEM Leadership Award celebrates the exemplary implementation by a school district that motivates their students towards academic success.  At the Award ceremony, NEF Chairman Dr. Appu Kuttan stated, “NEF is concerned that US is ranked 27th out of 34 countries in math and science. We hope our STEM academies across the nation will help students of disadvantaged schools improve their STEM skills, thus enabling them to compete for jobs in the highly competitive global economy.”

Through the STEM Academy, Tri-Valley was achieved the accomplishment of advancing an average student one grade level in a subject within 22 learning hours on the NEF’s CyberLearning Total STEM System Solution. This Solution includes:  individualized learning using top-rated online courses, teacher training, tech support, learning management system, teacher stipends, student awards and parent training.

NEF’s STEM Solution has been implemented in school districts across the country by the State University of New York (SUNY), in partnership with local universities. Tri-Valley’s success stood out as a clear example of how to effectively improve student achievement by motivating all the stakeholders—students, teachers, parents and administrators.

Seattle’s Aki Kurose middle school and Warren mobile casino County School District (PA) were also recognized for their distinguished achievements with their STEM Academy programs. This distinguished honor also carries monetary donations from NEF.

Along with this annual award, NEF provides grants and donations to school districts nationwide.  Tri-Valley’s STEM academy is a result of NEF’s QZAB donation to the district.  NEF believes that by providing STEM courses, as well as courses in other essential subjects such as English language arts, social studies, SAT/ACT, IT, business and management, the “STEM Academy” program provides a well-rounded educational experience for students of all grade levels.
